You can always tell when the club are about to announce a new signing; the RAFC ‘Fishul Site will without fail plug the text service; “If Keith Hill brings players in or lets them leave, subscribers to our Daleworld SMS Service will be the first to know” promised the OS earlier today. For the record, I’m not a subscriber to the Daleworld SMS Service and I found out about Nicky Adams’ signing a full two minutes later than the text was sent out, by reading the messageboard. If only I’d subscribed, I would’ve known 120 seconds earlier. How can I live with myself?
So, as you’ll have gathered from the opening paragraph, Nicky Adams has joined on loan from Leicester City. The ex-Bury left winger, who we endeavoured but failed to land in the summer, has finally seen the light and joined the likes of Dave Flitcroft, Tom Kennedy, Chris Beech, and YTS player Alex Mannion as ex-Bury men in Rochdale. Adams is primarily a left winger, or was last year anyway, but can play right across the midfield. One of the stand-out performers in League Two last year, he promises to be an exciting acquisition, even if it does garner doubts about Will Buckley’s future at the club.
Ah, Will Buckley. With every game his value rises, and rumour has it that Birmingham are poised to offer £750,000 for his services. You read that right, £750,000! But, as always, this remains a rumour, like Grant Holt to Tottenham, or Adam Rundle to Crewe. But with Adams joining the club, the rumour now has believability – is Adams a replacement for Buckley? God only knows at this point.
Buckley or no Buckley, Adams is likely to jump straight into the team for the Dagenham away match. It promises to be an eventful transfer window for the Dale – and I for one don’t know whether it’s a good thing or not.
